Diary date 30 Jan (film): Lucas workers and swords into ploughshares

Film: Swords into Ploughshares
Wednesday 30th January, 7:30 pm at the Friends Meeting House, York Street, Bath BA1 1NG
Swords Into Ploughshares tells the story of the Lucas Aerospace Alternative Plan.
Facing redundancy in January 1976, union shop stewards researched and presented designs for 150 products that the workforce could produce if the skills and knowledge gained in making armaments were used instead to make heat pumps, fuel cells, advanced medical equipment or public transport.
Based on the documentary The Plan That Came From the Bottom Up, directed by Steve Sprung, this one-hour film draws on the words and memories of those most directly involved and brings the story up to date with ideas to inspire our campaign for conversion away from arms production to useful manufacturing.
Part of our Rethinking Security series, with thanks to Bristol Against Arms Trade for their help in obtaining this film.
