Diana Jeater’s Salter lecture on Britain, Quakers and Africa

In delivering this year’s Salter Lecture, entitled Bearing witness or bearing whiteness? longstanding Bath Quaker and Zimbabwe expert Prof Diana Jeater examines the complex historical relationship between Britain, Quakers and Africans.

She suggests that getting to know Africa and Africans entails an inevitable journey into the heart of whiteness and an analysis of power and disempowerment. Self-awareness, she argues, should lead not to shame but to change.

Currently working at Liverpool University, Prof Jeater is a long-standing Bath Quaker.
