Two nights only: Tue 13 and Weds 14 Nov Michael Mears, a Friend from Wandsworth Meeting, is performing his drama This Evil Thing at the Ustinov Theatre.
Written and acted by Michael, it is about Britain’s Conscientious Objectors in WW1. Michael writes:
The format…is like high-octane storytelling. I play about 52 characters… Bert Brocklesby, who is a protagonist …was an absolutist, which meant he wanted nothing to do with the war…I use Bert’s words and testimony spoken by COs and others at the time, including philosopher Bertrand Russell
Attendance is voluntary. But we encourage conscientious Friends and indeed everyoneto attend; it’s highly relevant to the themes of Quaker Week in October. It takes place just days after the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One which Friends hope to have commemorated along with civil and military authorities in Bath at the Armistice Day event the previous Sunday 11 November.
This Evil Thing written and performed by Michael Mears, Tue 13 & Weds 14 Nov, Ustinov Theatre. Tickets £15 (£12 concs).
