Bath Friends Meeting House is now under the care of Topping & Company Booksellers. Extensive refurbishment works will be undertaken and the new bookshop is expected to open in the autumn of 2021.
Bath Friends are delighted that the building, which has been used as a Quaker Meeting House since 1868 is to take on a new life as a bookshop. Topping & Co believe that their new shop will be the largest independent bookshop to open in England for decades.
Bath Friends moved from the Meeting House in April 2019 having been through a process of considering their future needs. We concluded that the building no longer meets our requirements and needed a fresh start under new ownership. Until lockdown, Bath Quakers rented rooms in the Bath United Reformed Church on Grove Street for our Meetings for Worship. We expect to return to Grove Street when churches are allowed to reopen.
