Peace testimony: Bath Stop War invites Natalie Bennett to speak on Rethinking Security 22 Feb

The Bath Stop War! coalition has invited “unashamed radical” Natalie Bennett to speak in its next Rethinking Security public meeting 19:30 Weds 22 February at the Friends Meeting House.

Friendly faces of the Bath Stop War! Coalition on the steps of the Abbey (as they and their predecessors have been every day for 40 years).

Judith Eversley says: “The Green Party is the only UK party that has already made a new approach to international relations; Natalie Bennett wants to develop this alternative line of thinking and will be an excellent speaker. We hope Friends and others so that there is a good audience and a lively discussion.”

Stated briefly the Quaker corporate position on war (from Advices & Queries #31) is:

We are called to live ‘in the virtue of that life and power that takes away the occasion of all wars’. Do you faithfully maintain our testimony that war and the preparation for war are inconsistent with the spirit of Christ? Search out whatever in your own way of life may contain the seeds of war. Stand firm in our testimony, even when others commit or prepare to commit acts of violence, yet always remember that they too are children of God.
