
Bath Quaker Kate Macdonald will be giving an online talk to help raise money for Ukrainian refugee relief, on 30 March at 7.30pm. All ticket-holders will also be sent the private link to the recording on the Handheld Press Youtube channel, to watch at leisure. Featured authors and titles include Rose Macaulay’s pacifist novel Non-Combatants and Others (1916), and the letters of Lucy Sunderland, the wife of a Christian conscientious objector. Kate will also be talking about the wartime writing of Margery Allingham (thrillers), Stella Benson (modernist fantasy), Marjorie Grant (London in the closing years of WW1), Inez Holden (WW2 journalist), Margaret Kennedy (evacuation memoir), Ann Stafford (ambulance volunteer) and Angela Thirkell (bitter comedy on the Home Front).
